new on the delsin x-series is my home is sonic, a standout techno, dub and minimal album originally released in 2001 by icelandic producer arnvidur snorrason aka exos on ae recordings. exos is the son of dub techno producer octal and released three albums in his career, as well as a swathe of fine eps on labels like thule, mosaic, slow to speak and has recently being picked up by nina kraviz. his ability to build great atmospheres and heady soundscapes was unrivalled, and though they bottle up influences, they are always fresh, wintry and compelling. few have done minimal dub techno better before or since this masterpiece album, so it s right that 2015 sees it revisited by fans old and new alike.

sheik ‘n’ beik are a nyc based cohort specialising in promotion, production and outletting leftofcentre slices of electronic music. with previous releases from family members derek marin, voiski and peter corvaia their 4th release comes courtesy of danny wolfers (a.k.a legowelt) working alongside rush hour regular xosar under their xamiga alias. with this being xamiga’s 3rd release, the pair draw for their trusted arsenal of analogue gear and offer up the ‘bohemian grove’ ep, a woozy brew of foggy textures, gently frazzled hats and detroitindebted grooves. the title track kicks things off with glassy pads sat atop a longtailed thud and a sandy shuffle. a distant bass groove wades in ahead of a passage of intricate, bandpassed percussion and a circling synth line before ‘cumulus versie’ sets sheets of ethereal vocals and synth strings gently ducking under a taught analogue pulse. ‘midwest’ then sets hissing kicks and frayed hihats alongside a rasping bass tone. pitchbent synth lines then bubble into focus before ‘blizzard’ sets a dystopian tone from the off. a stout kick drum thunders under minorkey chord shifts and a menacing sequence that works to round off another fine addition to the sheik ‘n’ beik series.

time for some double dutch action with apollonia’s latest release, which comes courtesy of makcim & levi. the twosome have already been picking up steam in their native holland, playing at many of the country’s best-known clubs over the last few years, establishing themselves as selectors in a class of their own. and their prowess as djs is equal to their talents as producers, with their very first ep appearing on raum musik and finding its way into apollonia’s sets. now they’ve got together once again to produce their second ep just for the apollonia guys…the ‘more lettuce’ ep fits perfectly into the french label’s sound ethic, emitting a dark groovy energy throughout. for starters we have ‘more lettuce’, a gritty tech-driven monster on a mission. with its gravely percussion and air-raid siren-esque effects this is a surefire dance floor killer… listen out for the switch of pace, class. this is followed by ‘tegel’, presumably named after the airport in berlin. with this we get a kind of dingy berlin vibe, morose, grey yet ingrained with a bouncing energy that you just can’t help but bop your head to. on the flip side ‘thaiman’ injects a slightly odd feel to the ep with warped, muted sounds meandering around a subtle bassline. finally, makcim & levi close up the ep with ‘dope erwt’ another roller that will enchant the dance floor from the start, building into a bright, airy breakdown before continuing in its somber yet groovy manner.

acid, no wave and experimental house producer drvg cvltvre has been busy recently. after releasing with chris moss acid on shipwrec in 2014, vincent koreman then served up a full ep of his own, on dutch label cos_mos and is now back once again with a new four track affair on pinkman that comes two years after he offered up the label’s first ep in 2013. up first, * my houz* is a swampy house track with heavy drums, whirring machines and white noise textures all adding up to an intense affair that sounds like little else. then comes * tyranny of the gods* , a slow tempo but high impact track that builds and builds on a nerve lead synth line as frazzled bass props things up from below. dark and weird, occult and rave, its another unique proposition. on the flip, * sleepdealer* is an unbalanced house track with taught, tight bass and is shot through with laser like synths. serene and spaced out, it makes way for closer * crack spirit guide* which is a noisy, intense and brooding fusion of crisp percussion, big walls of synth and chattering drums that really have you on edge. once agin, then, drvg cvltvre has come up with the idiosyncratic goods.
